Jawai Wildlife

Explore the rich biodiversity of Rajasthan’s hidden wilderness

Leopards — The Stars of Jawai

Jawai’s leopards live among granite boulders and are often seen in daylight, hunting peafowl, langur and small deer. A sighting is never guaranteed. How a drive works is on the leopard safari page. The landscape itself is described on the wilderness.

Mammals of Jawai

Beyond leopards, the region hosts striped hyenas, Indian wolves, chinkara (Indian gazelle), nilgai (blue bull), desert fox, jungle cat, and Indian porcupine. Night safaris offer chances to spot the more elusive nocturnal species.

Birds of Jawai

With over 200 recorded bird species, Jawai is a birding hotspot. Key species include Indian eagle owl, painted sandgrouse, crested bunting, Sirkeer malkoha, and the majestic short-toed snake eagle. The Jawai Dam area alone hosts flamingos, pelicans, and bar-headed geese in winter.

A Jawai wildlife safari is the same private jeep drive: leopards on the rocks, and the birds, crocodiles and antelope that share this scrub and the dam.
