Winter (October — March)
October to March is the most comfortable window, with days often around 10°C to 25°C. Leopards rest on sun-warmed rocks and migratory birds use Jawai Dam. Camps book up, so plan ahead. Sightings are still never guaranteed. Within winter, November to February is usually the easiest for walking between the jeep and camp; October and March are warmer at midday.
Summer (April — June)
April to June can reach about 42°C. Mornings and evenings are the workable hours; midday is for the camp. Fewer travellers are on the hills. Animals visit water more often, which can help viewing, but heat is the real constraint. Photographers who can start early often prefer this quieter light.
Monsoon (July — September)
July to September turns the hills green and fills the dam. Roads can be slower after rain, and some camps close. Leopards are harder to see in thicker cover. It is a good time for landscape photography and a quiet stay, not for a packed safari schedule.
Best time for a Jawai leopard safari
For most travellers the best time to visit Jawai is October to March. Summer still works if you accept the heat and keep to early and late drives. Monsoon is green and quieter. Morning and evening drives run through the open season. A visual look at the three seasons is on Jawai seasons, and the shape of a day is on a day in the wilderness.
